Mathematische Modellierung und Analysis
The group Mathematical Modeling and Analysis (MMA), headed by Prof. Dr. Dieter Bothe, represents an interdisciplinary group. The scope of research covers the fields numerical mathematics and computational engineering as well as computational analysis of complex fluid behavior (see for a description). Currently, Professor Dieter Bothe and altogether more than a dozen PhD students and post-docs from different disciplines are affiliated to the group. The variety of expertise covers a broad field in computational and mathematical fluid dynamics as MMA teams mathematicians, physicists, chemists, and mechanical engineers working together on various projects (see for a list of personnel).
The research of the MMA Group covers the following fields:
- Hydrodynamics of Drops and Bubbles
- Influence of Soluble Surfactants
- Reactive Mass Transfer in Gas-Liquid Flows
- Thermocapillary Flows
Computaional Analysis is accomplished by means of Direct Numerical Simulations using the inhouse code FS3D (Free surface 3D) and the open source code OpenFOAM (Open Field Operation And Manipulation).
